It’s been a long time coming, but they’re finally here…eco conscious cell phones! For all the talking, texting and tweeting we do, we can now do it with phones that are made using environmentally friendly resources.
Although green phones aren’t really that new, it’s only been lately that the need and awareness for their natural potential has taken off. The first cell phone to break through the green barrier in the U.S. was T-Mobile USA’s Motorola Renew W233. I admit, I grabbed one and have loved it ever since. The phone is made from plastic parts from recycled material and promises (and delivers) a long battery life. One of the things that bugged me though was the amount of plastic used to house the phone. I had to cut through a mile of it just to get the phone out! Something about that didn’t seem right.
Seems like Spring and Samsung heard the call and have introduced their very first environmentally friendly phone, the Samsung Reclaim. The Reclaim SPH-M560 is also made from recycled plastic (40% corn based), like the Motorola Renew, but they take it a few steps further by packaging the phone in a box that’s also made from recycled paper. And, the ink on the user manual is soy-based. The phone’s charger also lights up to let you know to unplug it and save electricity.
The Reclaim also offers a slide-out keyboard, email, web access, GPS navigation and a camera. You’ll also find a 600-contact phone book at your fingertips, an alarm clock, calculator, speaker phone function and a stopwatch. Included is eco-friendly content with Green Glossary and Green Guide.
The phone comes in green, of course, and a cool shade of blue. For more information on the Samsung Reclaim, visit the Samsung Mobile site or Sprint.

If they could only make eco-friendly Blackberries. I know it’s for a great cause, but I’m too attached to my Blackberry. :/
