George Lopez is everywhere! He delivered a made-for-TV movie last month and has an HBO comedy standup special debuting this weekend. His brand new late night talk show will be beamed over the airwaves this fall, and he’s starring in two movies set to release early next year. Is this guy busy, or what?
There’s a definitive connection Lopez has with the Mexican-American community and that connection has provided the actor/writer/producer/comedian with a long list of projects that have garnered plenty of attention. Last month “Mr. Troop Mom,” a Nickelodeon television movie showed Lopez as a workaholic father who takes his less then enthusiastic teenage daughter to the great outdoors in hopes of reconnecting with her.
This upcoming weekend you’ll see a different side of Lopez as he takes the stage live at the AT&T Center in San Antonio on August 8th at 10pm for HBO. In his “as far from Nickelodeon as possible” performance, “Tall, Dark & Chicano” provides Lopez with the outrageous comedic outlet he’s known for. Expect to hear jokes on some of his favorite topics like parenting, kids, Barack Obama, sex, dating Latin women, and getting older.
And, this fall, Lopez debuts his brand new late-night talk show on TBS, airing Monday through Thursday nights beginning November 9th. The hour-long show featuring celebs, live music and comedy acts will be broadcast outside in Los Angeles and promises to have an “outdoor street-party atmosphere.” “George Lopez is a special talent, with an everyman appeal that makes him uniquely positioned to be the next great late-night host,” Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TBS and two other Turner Broadcasting channels, said in a statement.
Exactly…“everyman appeal.” The three projects just mentioned are obviously highly diverse in content. But, that’s what makes Lopez so sought after. He’s a man of rare talent who can easily transform himself in chameleon-esque fashion for different audiences in a way that’s genuine. This type of ability has made him a household name in that everyone from adults to kids has reason to be a fan. The type of exposure he gets from Nickelodeon, HBO and TBS is rare and priceless. Who says crossing over is bad?
