‘09 Midseason Shows Arrive

Jack is back! And, so is Betty, Simon and a host of others as the beginning of the year brings with it some brand new (and some returning) television shows that’ll be vying for your undivided attention. Here are a few to keep your eyes on…

On FOX

American Idol – The holy grail of reality entertainment shows returns for its 8th season. Has it been around that long?! This season is a little different in that there has been a fourth (gasp!) judge, which will hopefully add a little more spice to the program when it kicks off on January 13th.

24 – The unstoppable Jack Bauer is ready for action yet again as he does more things in a 24 hour period that most people do all year. See him go starting January 12th.

Dollhouse ImageLie To Me – From the producers of “24” comes “Lie To Me,” a show about a private agency hired by the FBI who’s job it is to find out who is lying and why. The hour-long drama debuts on January 21st.

Dollhouse – Sci-fi guru Josh Whedon (creator of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” & “Firefly”) brings his latest thriller to the small screen. Starring Eliza Dushku, the series begins on February 13th.

On FXdamages

Damages – This show is off the charts awesome. We were blown away by season one and season two continues to deliver the punches as it takes off on January 7th.

Nip/Tuck – Oh, the doctoral twosome of McNamara and Troy never fails to bore us. The continuation of season five, under the knives in LA, debuts on January 6th.

On ABC

Lost – How do they get off the island? Are they going back? What the hell is going on? Hopefully all these questions will be answered starting January 21st.

Ugly Betty – Our favorite girl Friday, Betty Suarez returns to television on January 8th, and not a moment too soon!

Cupid – Bobby Cannavale plays a man who claims to be Cupid sent to Earth to hook up 100 couples in the name of true love. Rick Gomez and Camille Guaty also star. The series begins on March 24th.

True Beauty – Gorgeous young women and men live together in a house in LA to compete for most beautiful. Thing is, they don’t know they’re being evaluated on inner beauty, not outer. Nolé Marin and Cheryl Tiegs are the judges while host Vanessa Minnillo does her thing beginning January 5th.

fridaynightlightsOn NBC

Friday Night Lights – Critical darling “Friday Night Lights” returns for its third season about love, life and football in the small town of Dillon, Texas. See its comeback on January 16th.

Kings – If you think a modern day take on the rise of King David sounds cool, this show is right up your alley. See the creative drama beginning March 19th.

On CBS

Flashpoint – The Strategic Response Unit is in charge of pretty much anything and everything that calls for taking down the bad guys. See the crew in action starting January 9th.

On ShowtimeThe L Word poster

The United States of Tara – Steven Spielberg not only does wonders on the big screen but on the small screen as well. Case in point: “The United States of Tara,” a show about woman who tried to maintain a balancing act between raising her family and her dissociative identity disorder. Sounds complex. Check it out beginning January 18th.

The L Word – It’s the sixth season of the controversially entertaining show about a group of lesbians looking for love in the city of angels. Things get hot and heavy again when the series kicks off on January 18th.

On HBO

Big Love – Just another ordinary day in the lives of a polygamist, his three wives and all of their kids. The series that turned heads is back, starting January 18th.

Flight of the Conchords – Jemaine and Bret spin their witty musical tales into hilarity for all to enjoy. Quirky? Yes. A must? No doubt. Check it out beginning January 18th.
