Staci Flood is best known for her extraordinary dancing. After all, she’s been featured in music videos too numerous to count, a ton of commercials, theater, live performances and did her thing on MTV’s “Dancelife.” Now, she’s returning to her love of singing, gearing up for her first solo release and is ready to shake things up…
Where did you grow up?
I was raised in Northern Cali, in a big Portuguese family. (You know how we Catholics have kids, that’s what I mean by big;) My Grandma was one of 18 and had 9 kids herself. I’m the youngest of 10…we’re talking big! HeHe. I currently live in Los Angeles.
How’s it been working on your solo album?
So far it’s been amazing. I’ve been working on music for years, in and out of groups, etc. But this is on my own, and all mine! A little scary but soooo exciting!!
Who inspires you, musically?
My taste in music is very eclectic, so I’m influenced by artists from all over the world.
Who’s in your iPod?
Stevie Wonder, Sin Bandera, A Tribe Called Quest, Mariza, Juanes, Michael McDonald, Reik, Robin Thicke, Biggie Smalls, Coldplay, Christina Aguilera, Pitbull…See what I mean! All types of music inspire me. It’s so easy to lose yourself in a great song! So, in making my own music that’s what I would like to do. Give people some place to escape to, relate to, and feel. The same thing music has given me.
Have you ever been compared to Jennifer Lopez?
I’ve always sang, so in my mind I have always been a singer and a dancer. But really I’m a performer. I think if you do something from the heart it will be well received no matter. Generally when people think of a dancer who became something else they of course think of Jennifer Lopez. In that way, I have been compared to her. Who wouldn’t want to be? I love being a dancer, but like her, that’s not all I am.
What would you like to accomplish over the next year?
My heart’s desire is to have my album released and be touring. Spreading the music!!!!
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is very laid back. (My family is from the Azores so of course I’m an island girl.) I love fluid and flowy clothing! I would wear flip flops everyday of my life if I could. But there’s nothing wrong with a stiletto now and then! I do love getting dressed up, and fortunately my “work” provides the perfect venue.
What would surprise people to know about you?
You may be surprised to know that I’m a huge, Huge, HUGE NASCAR fan!!!!!!!
What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
The one thing I couldn’t live without (and no one should) is love. It’s the one thing you keep even when you give it away.
