Lately I have noticed that everywhere you look, everyone wants to be a ROCKSTAR!!! I mean everyone, from the guy bagging my groceries to the flight attendant on my last flight and even my OBGYN!!! Yep you heard me, wants to be a rock star. And I bet some of them could have really done it!! It’s amazing how many people have raw talent that don’t even know it, but most do not!!! Just watch these hundreds of TV talent shows and you can see that some of these folks really believe that they are great!!! As much as I can honestly say that the rewards of being successful in the music business are AMAZING, the road to get there is far from it.

Look I get it. The illusion that comes from FAME is addicting, but it’s just that – an illusion. There are so many factors involved with becoming a FAMOUS ARTIST. So if you are one of the many that are thinking this is what I want…here are some thoughts!!

First you must and I repeat you must have TALENT!!! You don’t have to be the best singer or the best looking, but you have to have that something that comes through to the audience that is authentic and true, especially I if you want longevity. You could be a writer or producer of music and not sing. The best songs ever written were written by non singers. Second you must have the emotional and sometimes financial support of your family, friends, or partner in life, because the time energy, money and patience you must endure on this journey is mind bending at times. The rejection you get is almost laughable, so you must have a great group of stable people around you or you will drown, and that would be sad if you are one of those rare gems that should be doing this for a living.

Finally you must have confidence and assurance that nothing will stop you from living your dreams. You must make positive choices with the knowledge that there are so many sharks waiting to take advantage of your desire for fame that you might make a terrible mistake if you are not careful. When you hold yourself high with tremendous respect and integrity and that absolute certainty that this is what you should be pursuing then there is no stopping you. I do believe this law applies to any career but in this one it’s even more important due to the amount of people that rather see you fall that succeed.

Now you are probably wondering why I think I know so much about this. Well, I am living it everyday and I am just sharing with you what I think to be truth. I can honestly say that I have never compromised who I am as an artist and I have always held a tremendous appreciation to those who have helped me along the way. In this world that had become so much smaller due to the connection we all have to music, I can tell you that it’s not impossible and what you gain and learn about yourself, your true self, is awesome.
